Let’s Write a Story!

Here is a lesson plan for writing a non-fiction book with kids!

Step 1: Talk with the students and answer these questions

Question 1: What is the topic, person, or thing we are writing about?

Here are some examples:

  • The invention story of Lonnie Johnson, the inventor of the super soaker.

  • 5 Steps for how to make popsicles

Question 2: Create a list of information and facts about your topic.

Question 3: Use your list of information and facts about your topic and write seven facts to include in the book.

Step 2: Create individual book pages with a sticky note regarding what the student should write or draw on the page

  • Page 1- “Write, “Pick your fruit, juice!””

  • Page 2- “Draw a picture of your fruit juice pitcher and fruits.”

  • Page 4- “Draw a picture of pouring the fruit juice into molds.”
